Yay! Finally!
You would think that Microsoft and Apple would have driven people (and companies) running to desktop Linux; given the endless stream of things like:
Just a simple web search for 2025 Windows update breaks returns enough to scare someone.
Yet, no widespread push-back came until Microsoft announced that many users would be forced to update their hardware; or even buy new computers!; just to install Windows 11. And most users will be forced to install Win 11; since Win 10 support is ending in October 2025.
Force. Force. Force.
Some people just don't like to be forced. Like Linux users.
So a ground-swell of groups have popped up to help Windows and Mac users to move over to Linux. Once and for all.
This thread will discuss some of these efforts and the results. There are some large undertakings; such as German state moving 30,000 PCs to Linux and LibreOffice; but most of these will be relatively small … working with 10-12 users at a time.
This is really how it should be.

Interesting stories:
People have various reasons of coming to us. Either not being able to afford a new PC or just wanting to be able to use a working machine as long as possible. Some old PCs also had really cool features (like DVD drives or locking mechanisms on the lid) that people were fond of.
Some people also were participants first; and then came back to later events to pass their experiences along to new people.
Something about the KlimaWerkStadt in general as I'm not only using their rooms for the events but I'm also volunteering in the weekly repair café. The KlimaWerkStadt is a place where people can come together, share knowledge and help each other. The KlimaWerkStadt and the umbrella non-profit (KulturPflanzen e.V., which roughly translates to "culture plants non-profit") organize seminars, talks, the repair cafe, regular workshops for woodworking or textiles and many more events.
Future plans:
Events are held on an ongoing basis.

Interesting stories:
Our attendees this time were seasoned Linux folks, stopping in to see what was going on.
Mostly we discussed our home media server setups over beverages and chips. The second topic that we discussed was the risks that come with using Microsoft products.
in the past, we've had an embedded systems company come to try to find Linux talent.
Future plans:
We have to improve our promotion effort to reach more people outside Linux related circles. We thought we'd achieve this with a radio show in which the translator of endof10.org website into Slovene was a guest (here is link to the recording of the show, but it was in Slovene: https://radiostudent.si/druzba/tehno-klistir/konec-desetke).
We also recorded two jingles for the endof10 campaign at Radio Student, that invite people to the Linux install party; and the jingles are rolling on the Radio Student.
